Nicolet Library System (Nicolet) is proud to offer in-person training in regard to the shared automation systems provided by Outagamie Waupaca Library System's shared automation network (OWLSnet), as well as information on Workforce Development Resources available for patrons.

OWLSnet provides a shared, integrated library automation system to OWLS and
Nicolet member libraries for the purpose of facilitating resource sharing among network participants and increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of participant library operations and services. OWLSnet uses TLC's CARL library automation software to provide circulation control, central bibliographic database, central patron database, management reports, online public access catalog, interlibrary loan, overdue and reserve notices to patrons via email, resource sharing, and acquisitions functions to members.

At the start of the pandemic in 2020, OWLSnet adopted CARL as a new library automation software; and added the BiblioCommons discovery layer in 2021. For the first time since the adoption of the new systems, we can provide a more in-depth, in-person training for our member library staff.

To continue to implement the goals of the The Libraries Activating Workforce Development Skills (LAWDS) program, we are happy to provide training in regard to Workforce Development resources. The LAWDS program brought together public library staff with the staff of regional Workforce Development Boards (WDBs) and Wisconsin Job Centers, to facilitate more seamless support of job-seeking patrons, business owners and entrepreneurs. The Brown County Library has created many training resources which patrons can utilize during their job searches. The training will also familiarize library staff with the Job Center of Wisconsin's website in order to provide better and more-informed services to job-seeking patrons.

This training was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS LS-249996-OLS-21) through the Wisconsin Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant program.
