Libraries Host Best-Selling and Award-Winning Author Nickolas Butler

Marinette Consolidated County Library, Oconto Falls Public Library, and Shawano County Library co-wrote a grant for an author visit and book signing. The libraries selected bestselling and award-winning Wisconsin author Nickolas Butler.
 
At each library, Nickolas Butler performed a book reading from his latest novel, Little Faith, as well as an editorial he recently wrote as well as some personally meaningful correspondence he’s received since publishing Little Faith.

The author discussed his process of becoming a writer, which included a few glamourous tidbits but mostly grinding rejections. Additionally, Butler shared how his storylines “come” to him as well as how he writes his books (the story is in his head for months before he starts writing it).
 
Butler is a remarkably personable individual and interacted with each audience in a detailed way. He virtually answered every single question an audience member asked him. He was relaxed and casual in his approach and the audiences immediately warmed to him.
 
The author event occurred November 12 in Shawano, November 13 in Marinette, and November 14 in Oconto Falls. Each event was followed by a book-signing session.
 
This grant provided an excellent opportunity for smaller libraries to host a bestselling author. This type of program is often requested/suggested by our communities, although the cost is often prohibitive.
 
We sincerely appreciate Nicolet Federated Library System’s interest and priority in supporting local libraries within its region. We are not the same, although our challenges are- primarily funding.
