 JobPod, an innovative initiative dedicated to connecting job seekers with quality employment resources through public libraries, proudly announces its new “Powered by Microsoft” status.
The partnership was officially launched at a special event on October 22, 2024, at the Brown County East Branch Library in Green Bay, bringing together community leaders and stakeholders to celebrate this pivotal collaboration. The event featured notable speakers, including Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach, Microsoft US TechSpark Fellows Program Manager Michelle Schuler, Bay Area Workforce Development Board Executive Director Vickie Patterson, and Nicolet Federated Library System Director Tracy Vreeke. Together, they underscored the importance of leveraging training and technology to empower individuals in their job search efforts across Wisconsin. JobPod aims to merge the welcoming spaces of community libraries with essential workforce development services, offering a comprehensive range of job services and resources. This innovative model ensures that job seekers can find the support they need, regardless of their location. Through its collaboration with Microsoft, JobPod is positioned to provide robust training in digital literacy and technology skills. Gillett Public Library hosted another successful National Night Out, raising over $750 for the Gillett Fire Department.
Multiple community organizations contributed to the event, including the Gillett Women’s Club, which held a Bake Sale; Gillett VFW Post 8314, which made ice cream sundaes; and the Gillett Area Chamber of Commerce, which organized a cookout fundraiser. Local restaurants offered a variety of choices including La Mexicana and OJ’s Midtown. American Legion Post 300, Gillett Police Department, Oconto County Family Services, and the Marinette and Oconto Literacy Council staffed informational tables. Local band Homegrown entertained the crowd with classic rock tunes. The Tattooed Mannequin provided face painting for the crowd. Gillett Public Library Board members staffed a raffle table with a variety of prizes. Tanya Dittman made balloon animals for the kids. Saputo Cheese provided over 1,000 pounds of cheese for the event. Steve Frederick provided a trailer to take people to Zippel Park, where Eagle III landed. Posted by Emily Rogers The State and System Inclusive Services group has been busy in 2024 exploring resources to help staff and patrons who may need additional support. The following is a list of recent resources and trainings shared within the IS group:

The Bay Area Workforce Development Board, Brown County Library, Nicolet Federated Library System, and Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) held the launch of the third pilot site of a new collaboration between workforce development and public libraries – JobPod - on June 12 at the Marinette County Consolidated Public Library Service Niagara branch library.
As a new partnership, JobPod establishes the public library as a dependable bridge between the job seeker, job search experts, and employers, allowing job seekers to easily access job search resources, connect with a workforce development expert, participate in online employment training, and more. In addition to featuring special remarks, the JobPod launch sparked introductions and conversations among workforce development representatives and local school advocates regarding how DWD can provide more career services to high school students in the area. JobPod’s success can already be seen by the connections it facilitates between local communities and workforce development experts!. The Brown County Library-East Branch was the first JobPod access point for job seekers in the area, which launched in March; and the Algoma Public Library unveiled the second in May.
