​We would like to welcome Staci Rubenzer as the new Library Director for Shawano County Library.

Staci earned her bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science. Upon earning her teaching certification, she taught high school social studies for a few years, during which time she served as coordinator for the 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) afterschool program in that district.

Following her teaching position, Staci worked at the Clintonville Public Library as a library assistant. There, she realized the amazing opportunity being employed in a library afforded her to do meaningful work that centered around her love for learning, a belief in building community, and the reward of helping others find information and resources that improve their lives. 

Staci then pursued her master's degree and started working for the Green Bay Area Public School District as a library media specialist. Leaving that position was a difficult decision, as she will truly miss the students and her colleagues. However, she is very excited to be returning to serve in a public library in her hometown, and is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the dedicated and talented staff there.

Library Card Sign-Up Month begins next week, and once again, OWLS and Nicolet member libraries will receive promotional stickers to help celebrate this special time of year.


OWLS and Nicolet will share the following Facebook post (see video below) on September 1 at 7 PM.

Feel free to share the post, or even the individual image(s) within the post, on your library's Facebook page.

You are also more than welcome to create your own posts using the same sample copy and images that were emailed to library directors today. However, Facebook is cracking down on duplicated content, so it's better to share the post than to create your own using the same images and copy.

Wittenberg Library Assistant - Shawano County Library

Shawano County Library is hiring a library assistant for its Wittenberg Branch Library.

Job Summary: Performs circulation and customer service functions. Answers directional questions and refers customers to appropriate materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs Circulation duties, such as checking materials in and out, handling bills and notices, placing items on hold, processing courier delivery, processing a variety of reports, and account maintenance.
• Assists patrons with reference, computer, and equipment questions and support.
• Assists in planning and implementing programs and outreach activities.
• Handles interlibrary loans.
• Serves on internal and external committees and workgroups.
• Shelves materials.
• Collecting crates of materials for patrons/organizations utilizing the delivery service.
• Prepares bulletin boards and other displays.

Requirements: 

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of Windows-based computer operations, the internet, and email.
• Knowledge of library methods and procedures preferred. 
• General office experience.

There are only a couple of weeks left to nominate an individual or group who has made a lasting impact on intellectual freedom in Wisconsin. Now is your chance to recognize their contributions!

The WLA/WEMTA Intellectual Freedom Award honors outstanding efforts to uphold the principles of intellectual freedom in schools, libraries, and communities across the state.

Nominations may be submitted by personal members of the Wisconsin Educational Media & Technology Association (WEMTA) or the Wisconsin Library Association (WLA).

Review the award criteria and access the nomination form here. While you will need to create an account and provide your email address to access the form, WLA membership is not required to submit a nomination.

All nominations must be received by September 1, 2025.

Shawano County Library is hiring a Branch Lead for its Tigerton Branch Library.

Job Summary: Administers the overall programs of library services offered to the County at the Branch Library per the policies established by the Library Board.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Cataloging of print and media items.
• Collection development of print and media collections.
• Plans and presents programs and outreach for children, teens, and adults.
• Performs Circulation duties, such as checking materials in and out, handling bills and notices, placing items on hold, processing courier delivery, processing a variety of reports, and account maintenance.
• Assists patrons with reference, computer, and equipment questions and support.
• Assists in the preparation of book sales.
• Serves on internal and external committees and workgroups.
• Handles interlibrary loans.
• Shelves materials.
• Prepares bulletin boards and other displays.
• Maintains monthly statistics.
• Maintains and schedules branch volunteers.
• Work to resolve challenges or problems with Town or Village Officials.
• Schedule library substitutes as needed.
• Address situations with patrons utilizing library policies and procedures, and report actions taken to the Library Director. 

Requirements: 

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of Windows-based computer operations, internet, and e-mail.
• Knowledge of library methods and procedures preferred. 
• General office experience.
